You don’t need any kind of loom at all for this project. Just the few simple materials you see above. And it is so much fun. I could spend hours at this taskYou start by making two rows of small holes on a sheet of heavy cardstock. (My holes are spaces 1/16” apart but you can adjust as you wish.) Poke all the holes first–before you start stitching. Stitch the ”warp” of your weaving onto the paper.
Saya and I checked this beautiful book out of the library a few days ago. It is printed and bound by hand. Saya and I decided do some black and white artwork on kraft paper inspired by the illustrations in this book.
There is something so satisfying about drawing with sharpies. I could have done this for hours and hours. For the white we used acrylic paint. I tried chalkboard markers first, but they didn’t show up very well on the kraft paper. The white acrylic paint worked well.
We made this cute hammock for Saya’s dollhouse. I made it to fit her Maileg mice and other small friends. You’ll need:
a piece of fabric 11” x 5 1/2”
two pieces of dowel rod 5” each
4 small screw hooks
twine or string for hanging
needle and thread
Use a needle and thread to attach the tassels to four corners of the bottom of the hammock. (I cut these tassels off of one of Saya’s dresses because she didn’t like them, and I saved them for future projects.)
Any questions please send me an email. xoxo
Here is a craft project I tried a few days ago with Saya and a friend. They are flying tissue paper birds. Each one is made from four popsicle sticks, a thin dowel rod, tissue paper wings, and a bit of cardstock for the tail. We decorated them with sharpie markers.
I was planning to use wood glue, but the kids were too impatient to wait for it to dry, so we used a hot glue gun for gluing the wood pieces together, and just a regular glue stick for gluing the tissue paper in place.
We had fun playing with them when we were finished.
You can win this handmade doll, liberty print shirt, cotton skirt, star cape, rabbit ears, flower headband, and butterfly wings. Plus a hand stitched linen zipper pouch that you can use to keep the doll’s accessories in.
